Hi,

Some 15 years ago I wrote some speech (client and server) applications using Visual Basic and Borland C++ using the free Lernout & Houspie VoiceXPress SDK. At that time it was the far most best recognizing and speaking tool (although a little unstable). A few years ago I developed a speech application with the Microsoft speech engine but am not that enthusiastic about the quality of the sound.

Last year i informed at a Dragon Naturally Speaking reseller for their SDK. This would cost me a 4500 euro's(!) to get it.

The L&H SDK unfortunately only works under Windows 98. Not on XP/Vista/7.

I managed to get VoiceXPress installed in a VirtualBox on a Windows 98 machine running under Windows 7. But network connection is a problem.

My question is this: what SDK would you advised me to use for very good speech recognition and syntheses, for free or for a few hundred euro's maximum.

Hope to hear from you soon,

thanks in advance,

Henk

                                Welcome to the KnowBrainer Forums

Although the NaturallySpeaking SDK would be your best option, it is also very expensive and you will probably have to pay additional euros for support which means it might not be practical unless you have a major project. We recommend revisiting WSR (the latest Window 7 speech engine) because it has seen significant improvements since Windows XP and Vista plus it's still free. Other applications like Voice Xpress and ViaVoice are both owned by Nuance but are essentially dead.
