I am having trouble using the dictation box with Internet Explorer to post in this forum. When I try to transfer nothing goes across and it is not stored on the clipboard for pasting so it is lost. I also can't enter anything into the quick search facility via voice. I also have the same problem when trying to transfer instant messages into Facebook. All the above works with Firefox so I was just wondering is there anything I can do.

Steve, First, when you open the Dictation Box and in the lower right-hand corner there is a button for "Settings". Down at the bottom of the Settings dialog there are two checkboxes: (1) one for character count, and (2) one for "Keep transferred text in clipboard after the Dictation Box is closed". If you don't have the second one checked (enabled), then anytime you transfer text from the Dictation Box and it doesn't make it into your application window, it goes off into Never Never Land and only Tinkerbell or Peter Pan can help you out there. Second, you can't enter anything by voice into the quick search facility if what you're referring to is the "Search" link at the top of every forum post for KnowBrainer. That search box is not Select-and-Say compatible (Full Text Control - DNS 11). It never has been and that is a forum issue not a DNS issue because the same thing applies to all versions of DNS all the way back to whenever this forum was originally created. When dictating into the quick search box, you're attempting to dictate into a nonstandard window. In some cases you can dictate into nonstandard windows. In other cases you cannot. This is Just the Way, Full Text Control (Select-and-Say) works depending upon the underlying text edit controls in each window or text field that are being used by such. You can see this in Microsoft Word if you disable the Full Text Control AddIn (NatSpeak Word AddIn) and load Microsoft Word before you launch DNS. Under that condition, you won't be able to dictate into Microsoft Word either. Just how Full Text Control (Select-and-Say) works under given conditions and relative to specific text edit controls being used. However, you should be able to transfer text from the Dictation Box into that search box. Are you able to dictate directly into a Message Text window in KnowBrainer directly? You should be able to because that's fully Full Text Control (Select-and-Say) enabled. However, if you don't launch DNS before you launch Internet Explorer, it won't be Full Text Control enabled. Same thing applies to Internet Explorer as applies to any Microsoft office application, or any Full Text Control supported application. DNS has to be launched first or you won't have Full Text Control capabilities regardless of whether the application supports it or not.Lastly, how are you accessing Internet Explorer. Under some conditions and some versions of Firefox, accessing Internet Explorer through Firefox may not work properly either with the Dictation Box or relative to Full Text Control. I found that there is some quirky behavior with Firefox primarily because Firefox in an of itself is not Full Text Control enabled and there are certain problems with Microsoft Active Accessibility - MSAA. Even though there are Natural Language Commands for Firefox in DNS 11, it still isn't fully supported. However, you should still be able to use the Dictation Box as long as the settings are enabled for keeping the text in the clipboard when transferring such. After a year of using DNS one would have thought I would have noticed this before now. Quote: When dictating into the quick search box, you're attempting to dictate into a nonstandard window. In some cases you can dictate into nonstandard windows. In other cases you cannot. It's unpredictable as you say and it works in Firefox so I will use that as my browser when searching the KnowBrainer forum. Quote: Are you able to dictate directly into a Message Text window in KnowBrainer directly? Yes I can but it's a bit wayward when editing so I prefer to use the dictation box. Quote: Lastly, how are you accessing Internet Explorer. Under some conditions and some versions of Firefox, accessing Internet Explorer through Firefox may not work properly either with the Dictation Box or relative to Full Text Control. I have been using Internet Explorer and Firefox independent of each other. Quote: Hope this is helpful and resolve your problems. Thank you for explaining it thoroughly. Steve

takenaback, So, using the dictation box is your viable option in this case. I use it anyway because if for any reason there is an inadvertent shift away from what you're dictating in the KnowBrainer Message Text box, you lose whatever you dictated. So, I avoid that regardless of the fact that I have Full Text Control (Select-and-Say) because I'm using Internet Explorer as my default and primary browser. Although it is impossible to dictate into the forum Search field, your KnowBrainer command software includes a command to search the KnowBrainer Forum. Just dictate a word or phrase in any application (it doesn't have to be your browser) and say Search KnowBrainer Forum. When you say this command, the last phrase you dictated will be copied to the clipboard, a search will be implemented on your default browser, the contents of the clipboard will be pasted into the search field and the {Enter} Key will be pressed along with a verbal confirmation that the search has completed. For those who are not using KnowBrainer, you can optionally add the following bookmark http://www.knowbrainer.com/PubForum/index.cfm?page=forumQuickSearch for a search field that you can dictate into.
