I have just noticed that in Word 2010 in the word count in the bottom left hand corner of the screen (see attached - "12/204", as well as the number of words in the document, if the Spelling Window is open, it shows (preceding the slash), the number of words selected, i.e. the total number of words in the utterance (in this case 12), the way I use the Spelling Window.

I find this quite useful, given that I tend to dictate in pretty long utterances, maybe 35 or so words. It means that I can judge more accurately which number is the word I want to correct, if it is closer to the end of the utterance.

Maybe it only saves nanoseconds, but it's a new one on me, and I thought it worth sharing.

PS Beg pardon, I think it gives the number of words selected minus one! But it still helps.

Ed,

I'm quite new to Word 2010, so I appreciate you pointing this out. For whatever its worth, this information is also available if you're using the "Select" commands and/or the Correction menu. In other words, if you tell Dragon to select a part of an utterance it'll tell you how many words you've selected before the /.
