Hello

Iam currently using Dragon 10.1 Medical in a hospital setting when grossing (dissecting) surgical specimens.  I am trying to create a macro (advanced scripting) to create a synoptic report with "locked" options for choices in certain fields.  Other fields can be variables where open text can be inserted.

Here is an idea of what I am after:

Specimen Type: [Type]    -when you say the word "Type" it would activate a macro with a dropdown list, from where you choose          an option (eg. Breast Lumpectomy, Modified Radical Mastectomy, etc.)

I have created a "Text and Graphics" macro used a variable in the [ ].  When I say "Next Field" to activate the variable, the word in the variable (i.e. Type) activates a different advanced scripting macro.  I used the "two boxes" and "radio boxes" examples in the DNS Advaced Scripting manual to see if it would work.  It does work, but I can't figure out how to create a macro that uses a drop down menu with options that you choose verbally(I do not know how to script, and I am learning as I go).

Thank you.

 Steve

Steve,

I have found voice-activated menus to be the most demanding aspect of Advanced Scripting for Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

You can find some samples of voice-activated menus in the sample commands that come with Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Just look up "Structured Commands Samples" in the Dragon help file. The grocery list and restaurant menu examples make use of voice-activated menus. If you have a bit of time on your hands you might be able to adapt them to your own needs.

They make use of the item in the MyCommands Editor that is called "recognizable in states". This means that you are able to create commands that are only recognizable when you have previously made a command that activates the state. (Yes, I don't really understand it.)

"Next variable" might be such a command.

If you're looking for a very good introduction to Advanced Scripting, you might want to purchase "Scripting for Dragon NaturallySpeaking" by Larry Allen. Unfortunately, he does not cover state-dependent commands. Nonetheless, it is a very valuable resource, even and especially for nonprogrammers.

Good luck,
Boris

Hi Boris

Thanks for the information.  I will work with these macros and see if I can edit them.

I have been working with the "Scripting for Dragon 10" by Allen, but I find it difficult to follow as I am not a programmer.

Thanks

Steve

Try writing a menu in wordperfect, calling the menu with a kb alt-letter command.  the macro language in wp is quite robust.
