I am getting ready to upgrade from DNS 9 pro to DNS 10 pro. I am also considering purchasing Amazing Charts. Any recommendations or precautions? Is there a compatability issue with either one? thanks Jean |

Jean, I gather that you have not been participating in any of the speech recognition forums until now. If you are going to use an EMR, and you upgrade to DNS 10 Pro, you will not be able to access your EMR. In affect, Nuance has hardcoded a block into any version of DNS except DNS 10 Medical such that if you attempt to access an EMR with any other version, or even write e-mails with the name of an EMR in them, your microphone will shut down and you will not be able to continue until you either delete that content or get out of the EMR. Unfortunately, there is no INI file or other configuration file in DNS that can bypass this because it is in fact "hardcoded" into the program code. I know you're probably asking the question why don't you see any squawking about this. All the squawking has already been done back when the problem was first noted in August of last year. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about this except to stay with DNS 9.5 Pro if you want to continue using any EMR. Otherwise, you will be forced to go to DNS 10 Medical. Equally unfortunately, this is a decision that was made by Nuance and no amount of squawking or banging on their door is going to change it. It's all been done already. I know that Lunis claims to have a workaround with KnowBrainer, but I suspect that that is somewhat limited and you still run the risk of shutting your microphone down under certain conditions if you attempt to use any version other than DNS 10 Medical relative to any EMR or reference thereto in any document or e-mail. Chuck I need to clarify....I currently have DNS 9 Pro not 9.5 Pro. According to your response (and I now do recall this discussion in the past but I don't log on often to keep up with things), 9.5 Pro is not a problem nor is 9.0? But, 10 Pro is not workable (even though Lunis suggested a work around). If 9 is OK, fine. If I upgrade to 9.5 Pro that apparently works with an EMR, is the upgrade significantly better than my current 9 Pro? Jean |

Jean, The upgrade to DNS 9.5 Pro is a free download and, yes, it is an improvement over 9.0 because it incorporates support for IE 7 and Mozilla Firefox 2x, as well as a number of fixes that were included in the DNS 9.0 SP1, as well as a couple of other tweaks and improvements. It is better than 9.0 or 9.1 (SP1) because it is consolidated code. Consolidated code always works more efficiently than any service pack release applied to a previous version Yes, DNS 9.5 Pro is better and works perfectly fine with any EMR. I would strongly advise you to acquire and install DNS 9.5 Pro. This has been the recommendation of everyone on this forum since DNS 9.5 was released. Just be advised that the download is large and that if you don't have a broadband Internet connection, it may be next to impossible to get it downloaded properly. If so, then the only way that you can obtain a copy of DNS 9.5 Pro is to contact Nuance customer service and obtain the DVD for $9.95 shipping and handling. Thank you for your feedback....probably a stupid question, but how do I access the Free download of version 9.5 professional?

Quote: Thank you for your feedback....probably a stupid question, but how do I access the Free download of version 9.5 professional? Jean, First, ignore the fact that reference is made to Windows Vista. DNS 9.5 was created to be Vista compatible, which 9.0/9.1 was not. However, DNS 9.5 is perfectly compatible with all 32-bit versions of Windows XP and Vista. This the only versions of Windows it does not work with are the 64-bit versions, which require DNS 10.1 64-bit. You can obtain it by following the instructions at the following Nuance website: Chuck Runquist "If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce would today cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year, killing everyone inside." -- Robert X. Quote: I know that Lunis claims to have a workaround with KnowBrainer Our original KnowBrainer workaround is a no go. Nuance put an end to it by preventing any macros from working within EMR software; even when the macro begins in another application. There are a couple of physical workarounds which include changing the name of the EMR application executable or using a shareware program to change the name of the Window but they are not bulletproof and won't work in all EMR applications. We definitely recommend upgrading to Ver. 10 but if you're using EMR software, we can only recommend purchasing the Pro to Medical 10 Upgrade. We are not pleased with Nuance's decision but there is little we can do about it. -------------------------
