Newbie,

I'm a PA for several cardiologists and have a lot of problems with the physicians routing, they don't particularly like how many steps it takes.

I tried a macro but that lasted all of 1 day and then did not produce the next.

I keep reading on the forum about scripting.  I have never script before or know the first thing about it but have read a lot on the subject, it sounds like it might be the answer to my problem.  We work in EPIC 2009 and have Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10.1.

Several of the physicians will not touch Dragon until we get this resolved.  If you guys could help me with this problem it would make my year.

I no this is the Knowbrainer forum but this is beyond me.

Thanks ~ Gwen

Dragonlady25,

You make reference to DNS 10.1, and I assume that you're using DNS 10.1 Medical. However, it would be nice if you would clarify that.

Using a macro or using scripting is essentially similar. The difference between what you may be doing and Advanced Scripting is that Advanced Scripting is writing code in Visual Basic for Applications as supported in the professional versions of DNS. Unfortunately, you haven't provided sufficient information with which any of us can evaluate either the process or the problem.

A step-by-step detailed explanation of what you mean by "... the physicians routing..." in EPIC 2009 would be helpful in terms of understanding exactly what you're trying to do and how we may be able to help you with such.

Yes, this is the "KnowBrainer" forum, but it's primarily a Dragon NaturallySpeaking forum. It's perfectly appropriate to post your questions here.

Someone on this forum can help you, but not without more detail.

Welcome to the World’s Most Popular Speech Recognition Forum

Exactly what Chuck said. Only a minority of questions are KnowBrainer specific. The bulk of speech recognition questions are aimed at NaturallySpeaking and microphone issues.
We assume you're using Dragon Medical or Small Practice 10 because you can't turn on the microphone in any other version of NaturallySpeaking from within EPIC. However, it would help to know more about the construction of your command. If you could perhaps describe what you need your macro to do along with what kind of macro you created (macro recorder, step-by-step or Advanced-Scripting). Other options include:

1. Larry Allen’s Scripting for Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11
2. Have a speech recognition consultant create a command for you through Virtual On-Site Support

I use Epic and have designed several scripts for automating tasks.  The large difficulty you might have is that not all actions within Epic have keyboard shortcuts, which requires the use of a "mouse click" command.  The position of the mouse click will change from monitor to monitor.  So, I have two separate scripts (one for home, one for work).  That being said, it is something that can be automated.  What you should start by doing is try to figure out each and every step of what you would like to do, and see if there are keyboard shortcuts for all of the commands.  If so, your task is fairly simple.  If not, . . .

Thanks Lunis, Chuck and Brian,

Thanks for all your help. What would you recommend for someone who has little to no experience in computer language and operating systems that wants to learn scripting?

Would Larry Allen's book be pellucid for a novice like me?

Love your forum....

Gwen

Larry Allen’s Scripting Guide is designed for both beginners and advanced users. We highly recommend it.
