Not sure if this forum is only for Support issues regarding DNS for windows.   I use both Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 10 medical for Windows as well as MacSpeech Dictate medical for iMac. I find that there are several issues with the latter and I am unsure how to correct words as “correct that” is not an option.

Is anyone dictating into Practice Fusion as their EHR?  Would like to talk to you if so.

Thanks,

Dr. S.

Hopefully, in about a week, this forum group will be migrated to our new forum group which will include a new dedicated MacSpeech/DragonDictate forum as the current MacSpeech forum has gone unmonitored and seemingly going downhill fast since Nuance took it over. If Nuance follows their usual track, they will probably decommission the MacSpeech forum in the future as they have decommissioned all of their other forums once they conclude that the upkeep is more trouble than it is worth.

Unfortunately, we don't have an answer for your specific problem other than to say that although MacSpeech Medical includes the NaturallySpeaking Ver. 10 speech engine, it is barely a speech recognition product. It only works in a handful of applications and you don't even have the option of dictating and typing. To make matters worse, we strongly suspect that Nuance has no intention of creating a second-generation DragonDictate Medical product. It looks like Nuance is going to continue the development of DragonDictate (which utilizes the DNS Ver. 11 speech engine) and has made a lot of improvements in that product but at the moment, you might find it easier to install Windows 7 via Parallels, VMware or Bootcamp and simply use Dragon Medical because tech support for MacSpeech is also pretty much AWOL. The original MacSpeech developers are now long gone.

We should also point out that most of our Mac customers, who have informed us that they have to use Mac computers, have decided to forgo MacSpeech and switched to DragonDictate. This would cost you your vocabularies but take you into a better product. Most physicians tell us that they actually have higher accuracy in DragonDictate but our 1st recommendation, if possible, would be to work in Windows and upgrade to the
Dragon Medical Practice Edition Upgrade which is a notable improvement over Ver. 10.

Lunis,

It should come as no surprise to you that I must respectfully, strongly disagree with you on this point. DMPE is awful. I have documented in numerous posts all of the problems that I encountered using DMPE which finally lead me to throwing in the towel and reverting back to DNS Medical v. 10.1. I tried and tried to work with DMPE for about 4 months--read here endure DMPE. It was a most frustrating experience. I hated to lose $500 and go "backwards", but in truth, reverting back to DNS Medical v. 10.1 was going forwards. I was having rogue commands several times per day with DMPE, probably related to the new sampling rate. It did not matter whether using Best Match III or IV, which medical vocabulary chosen, changing microphones, etc, etc. The only thing that reduced, but did not eliminate the problem was setting the "Pause before Command" to a level that was a work-flow impediment. Latency was also a problem, particularly in the Spell Dialog Box. Rogue commands also occurred in the Spell Dialog Box. DMPE only uses the version 11.0 speech engine and none of the v. 11.5 patches that have been available to others now for about 2 years have been incorporated into DMPE. Additionally, DMPE was delayed and released over 1 year after these v. 11.5 patches were available for everyone else. This is totally unacceptable that Nuance gave physicians such an inferior, not-ready-for-Prime-Time product--and for a significant price. But the price is more than money, it includes the price of workflow interruption and frustration in dealing with DMPE to try to make it a workable product. I know that the Medical and non-Medical divisions are separate, but despite loud and numerous complaints with well-documented posts including Dragon logs etc., Nuance has still not come through with a DMPE fix/patch. This is appalling. Physicians are their bread and butter customers. Since "going back" to DNS Medical v. 10.1 a few months ago, I have been a happy camper once more. I have not had a single instance of these rogue commands or latency issues. Also, the claim that DMPE is more accurate than DNS Medical v. 10.1 is also nonsense. I used DMPE long enough to have had a mature user and saw no accuracy difference compared to DNS Medical v. 10.1. Bottom line: DMPE is a disaster still waiting for a fix. Sorry to be so blunt, but other physicians who participate on this forum have had similar experiences. Physicians should avoid DMPE until it's serious problems are patched.

We have a lot of satisfied clients who have upgraded from Medical 10 to DMPE but we also have a few clients who have reported similar findings to yours and some have even gone back to Ver. 10 but like you, we haven't been able to figure out exactly what's going wrong. However, we don't disagree with most of what you have to say about the patches, why Dragon Medical has to be developed by an entirely separate division or even why Dragon Medical wasn't released as Ver. 11.5 (minus those silly social media commands) fully a year later. No disagreement that Nuance needs to do better on the medical end.

However, in this thread, our main concern is the general lack of support for Mac users and whether or not there will even be a DragonDictate Medical.
