I'm thinking of upgrading from Dragon Medical 10.1 to 11 but I would like to know people's opnions on the speech recognition accuracy of 10.1 vs 11.

Welcome to the KnowBrainer Forums
You'll find our 14 page review when you click NaturallySpeaking 11.5 Review but when it comes to accuracy, your sound system makes a big difference because Nuance doubled the sampling rate from 11.025 kHz to 22.05 kHz. If you're using an over-the-counter microphone such as what you might find at Best Buy or the manufacture OEM microphone you could actually experience a slight loss in accuracy but if you're using a good microphone such as 1 of the models that you would find on our Microphone Comparison Matrix. Depending on the microphone, you could appreciate a 25% bump in accuracy but not everyone has duplicated those results. Hopefully others will respond. -------------------------

Mike, Be careful when you review the NaturallySpeaking 11.5 review provided by Lunis (KnowBrainer) because DMPE, which is Dragon's 11.0 version of DNS Medical, is just that, 11.0, not 11.5. It may be confusing when reviewing the document to which Lunis refers because the features that are available in 11.5 Professional, Legal, Premium, etc. are not available in DMPE 11.0. Unfortunately there is no product comparison matrix for 11.0 any more so it's difficult to weed out those things that are available in DMPE 11.0 and those things that are not if you haven't used DNS 11-11.5 prior to this point. All this being said, DMPE 11.0 does up the indie on accuracy overall vs. DNS 10.1 Medical. However, the DNS 11.0-11.5 versions do have a tendency to increase accuracy at the expense of multiple processing (multithreading) using to acoustic models (BestMatch IV). If you intend to upgrade/update your DNS 10.1 user profile, keep in mind that your CPU, amount type and speed of RAM, amount and type of cache, version of Windows, etc. all have an impact on how well DNS 11-11.5, but particularly in your case DMPE 11.0, will perform. If you are not using one of the Core™ i processors (i.e., first or second generation (Gulftown or Sandy Bridge), or you are using pre-Core2™ Pentiums, you have less than 4 GB of RAM, or your processor only uses a minimum amount of L2 cache, you will experience certain latency issues when moving from DNS 10.1 Medical to DMPE 11.0 because DNS 11-11.5 processes your dictation twice. BestMatch III uses one core making a double pass using one Acoustic Model. BestMatch IV processes your dictation twice using two cores and two distinctly unique acoustic models. What this means is that DNS has to have access to multiple cores (only two) in order to process your dictation using BestMatch IV. Therefore, when you're considering upgrading your DNS 10.1 Medical user profile, there is a point during the conversion process where you're asked whether you want to use BestMatch III or BestMatch IV. You should make your selection based on the above because once you do, there's no changing it without creating a completely new user profile, which we strongly recommend anyway using your converted user profile from DNS 10.1 Medical as the basis for copying any custom commands or custom vocabulary to a newly created DMPE 11.0 user profile.
