I'm currently using Dragon 11, premium and Knowbrainer 11. I'm thinking about buying Soapware EMR which offers a robust ability to be customized. I understand that there is a conflict with Dragon 11 premium and the microphone issue in many EMR's. The dilemma is the following. Is there or will there be an upgrade pathway from Dragon 11 premium into a medical version compatible with the electronic medical records. Will small practice and medical version be continued or be consolidated into more expensive software. Is there a workaround. given the need to make choices because of the deadlines in the government legislation, there is also some uncertainty with the release date of Dragon medical 11. therefore, a corollary question would be if one purchased Dragon medical 10/10.1 now, what would the cost of an upgrade into Dragon Medical 11 when it is released look like.

Quote: Is there or will there be an upgrade pathway from Dragon 11 premium into a medical version compatible with the electronic medical records. There are currently 2 paths: 1. The Preferred/Premium to Medical 10.1 Upgrade. 2. KnowBrainer Medical. Note that KnowBrainer Medical will not allow you to directly dictate into SOAPware but it includes the medical vocabularies and the KnowBrainer Medical Editor (similar to the Dictation Box) which allows you to conveniently go through a middleman as follows: Simply place your cursor inside of SOAPware, which will turn off your microphone. Then click into the KnowBrainer Medical Editor, utilize full Select-&-Say control dictation and say Transfer which will transfer all of the text to SOAPware, move to the next SOAPware field, move the cursor back to the KnowBrainer Medical Editor and turn the microphone back on. Quote: Will small practice and medical version be continued or be consolidated into more expensive software Dragon Medical 10.1 Small Practice Edition is a discontinued slightly stripped down version of Dragon Medical 10.1 which lacks template commands, radiology and pathology vocabularies. It is also specifically licensed to practices of less than 25 physicians. This product has already been discontinued but remaining product is still available through all licensed resellers. We recommend switching to KnowBrainer Medical or purchasing the full boxed copy of the Small Practice Edition which is lower priced than upgrading from Premium to Medical. The advantage of KnowBrainer Medical is higher accuracy but the advantage of the Small Practice Edition is being able to dictate directly into SOAPware and utilize SOAPware application-specific commands. It will actually be less expensive to upgrade now then it will be when Medical 11.x is released because the price will be going up to $2149. You're better off purchasing now and upgrading when the new version comes out than waiting and paying more. Quote: what would the cost of an upgrade into Dragon Medical 11 when it is released look like. No one knows the exact price of Medical 11.x upgrades but Nuance typically allows the licensed resellers to offer the upgrades at very attractive pricing (typically more than 50% off) for about a month and then raises the prices back up to SRP so our recommendation would be to send an e-mail to Sales@KnowBrainer.com requesting to be put on the upgrade notification list so that you don't miss out on the introductory pricing but note that the introductory pricing is only available for Medical 9/10 - Medical 11.x. Discount pricing will not be available for Premium to Medical upgrades and that's why we recommend upgrading before Medical 11.x is released. -------------------------
