I am now at the point where I am to run Dragon 15 Pro's setup.exe. I have looked in Program Data, Program86x and even on the task manager's processes. I cannot find it anywhere.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks so much and stay safe,

Jim Triona

You purchased a download in late August of 2016. DVDs are no longer available so if you don't find the DPI 15 installer in your download folder, you'll find a link to download again with new manuals and Quickstarts.

Have you searched for the file across your entire computer? In Windows 7 you can do that by clicking on the Start button and then putting the filename in the box at the bottom (the one that says "search programs and files") or using the box at the top right of Windows Explorer. I don't know what the equivalents are in Windows 10, but they must exist. By doing a global search, you can find a file that you may have saved in an unlikely folder by mistake.

Thank you for getting back to me,

I installed a brand-new Dragon 15 Pro and I still have the problem. I am using the dictation box to dictate this.

I entered the command you sent. I got the pop up that said Dragon needed to be elevated. I decided to type in your command. When I got to program there was no "natspeak.exe" listed.

I still think I am living through a hex placed on me by one of my college girlfriends.

I am almost to the point of getting my hair cut in the Peaky Blinder style. I like it much better than that North Korean dictator's.

Thanks so much. I appreciate it.

Jim

1. Natspeak address: C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Program\natspeak.exe

2. Office 365 (Ver. 2019) is not Dragon 15.3 compliant. We recommend downgrading to Ver. 2016 or adding KnowBrainer 2017 which, along with lots of other goodies, includes Direct Dictation trigger commands for anything; including the ability to directly dictate into any Office 2019, Time Matters etc. app.

Lunis,

As always, thanks for getting back to me. I did not change anything with Office 365 before the recent inability to dictate into Word or Outlook. Dragon 15 Pro worked flawlessly and then it did not.

I took a screenshot of my office 365 version but it does not give the year. However on the start up list of programs it shows Microsoft Office Tools 2016 and in the Office program Outlook 2016. Were does not appear in either of them. I tried to attach the screen shots by clicking attach file and nothing. I am going to send this and then search the forum as I think I ran into this bofore.

On the other hand, I checked to see if Office 365 had any updates and I found it was completely up-to-date. I am wondering if that took me to 2019? However, I do not recall ever updating the program.

The other odd thing is when I went into the file location you set out in your reply I did not find the natspeak.exe file. I did find natspeak described as an application file of 6,706 KB. There was also a natspeakexe.config dile described ass a CONFIG file of 36 KB. I did not try to open either one.

If in fact I do have Word 2019 and Outlook 2019, with Microsoft be able to prevent the natspeak.exe from loading?

Finally, there is natspeak word add-in when I open the options menu from Word. Two days ago it was present. I tried the select and say fix from Quick Tips. I think I diabled UAC because I put the slider to never and hit okay. Still no natspeak word add-in. I am going to see if I can go back to office 2016.

I will let you know.

I truly do appreciate your help.

Stay safe,

Jim

Please don't take a picture of your entire desktop unless it is is necessary. In your case your attachments cover 2 monitors. This is a space waster and nearly impossible to view on a single monitor. Rather than using your keyboard {Prtsc} button, which captures everything, try pressing {Alt+Prtsc} or better yet, use the KnowBrainer Capture PNG command to snap a picture of the current Window, paste the picture into Windows Paint and prompt you to name it as a PNG. This command is also significantly faster.

Hello, Lunis,

As you can see from the form, I can still not dictate into Word. I have installed KB 17. I read through the July 5, 2018, manual and read through the how do I (Start) concerning the KB & Dragon Popular commands but found nothing such as a trigger command.

Can you point me anywhere I can find it? Using the dictation box is about as slow as me trying to type directly into Word.

I hope you can relax over the weekend. Stay safe.

As always, thanks so much,

Jim

You have another possible option. Try right clicking on the Microsoft Word shortcut on your desktop or from Windows Start menu and choose Run as Administrator. Now reenable the Dragon add-in but do not close and relaunch Microsoft Word. The good news is that it will work immediately. The bad news is that you will have to go through this process every time you launch Microsoft Word.

As always, Lunis,

Thanks for getting back to me. Tried your suggestion. The NatSpeak add-on was not available in the add-in section of Word.

What an adventure.

Your help is always appreciated.

Look at my response above for adding it back in since you said you had the file. It basically means going back in Word and Managing the COM Add-ins and then "Add" it back from the location where you have the file . . .

Hello again, Lunis,

When I read the "What is KnowBrainer" I think I found the triggered command. The example you gave was "Type my dog has fleas." When I gave that command in word, it showed up in the Dragon recognition box but it was not dictated into the new blank Word document.

This gets more interesting by the minute, would not you say?

Thanks so much.

Stay safe

By any chance, are you dictating into Microsoft Word on the cloud or across a network? If so, this might explain your situation and if the network is a little slow, the KnowBrainer Type <my dog has fleas> might not work because it deploys too quickly. However, you should be able say Type in <my dog has fleas>.

Good afternoon, Lunis,

I am using Dragon and KB 2017 directly on my laptop.

Lunis,

I downloaded Dragon capture. I can dictate directly into word rather than dictating into it even though it pops up. I am dictating directly into this reply without dictating into it.

You will notice in the first attachment (I was able to use the command "Capture PNG to File) the KB 2017 to commands "Type" and "Type in" do not work. Also, when I go into the Word add-ins it is empty.

And finally, you will see that the "dgnword.dll" is present.

This "Capture PNG to File" command is awesome!

More variables for the mix.

Thanks so much,

Jim

If you lost dictation in MS Word and MS Outlook, there is no pressing need for a reinstall (which is what you'd need setup.exe for). I take it that you have already followed the instructions in the Knowbrainer Quick Tips on "What to do when you lose select and say ...".

If all that fails, close Dragon, press Windows + R and enter the following command:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Program\natspeak.exe" /fixguids

You may need admin rights for the command to execute. Please report back if that helped.

Cheers, Stephan

You set your Windows Explorer so that file extensions don't show. The file that you reference is actually NatSpeak.exe.

As far as your office version is concerned, you've got version 1908 which was released in August 2019. I must admit that I don't really see through Microsoft's policy of naming their office products. Anyway, I don't think that this version would be non-Dragon compliant. I've got Microsoft office version 2002 and while I do have some issues with Dragon Professional Group 15.5, it is basically Dragon friendly.

Please try the following:

Open notepad and enter the command I gave you yesterday into the editor:

start "" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Program\natspeak.exe" /fixguids

Save the file as something like fixguids.cmd. The ending "cmd" is important, not the bit that comes before the dot. Double-click the file to run the command. Better still, right click on the file and choose "run as administrator". You will probably be prompted to enter an administrator password, or at least give permission that the command makes changes to Windows.

Does that work?

Hope that helps, Stephan

Stephen,

Thank you for getting back to me. I was able to find the natspeak.exe file when I clicked on show extensions.

I copied the command you gave me into notepad and saved it. I am attaching a screenshot of it. (Apologies to Lunis about the screenshots.) Nothing happened when I right clicked on it. I then found notepad editor and downloaded it. I then pasted the command into it. I am attaching a screenshot of it. When I saved it, it was saved as a bat.exe, which I thought probably was better. Also attaching a screenshot of the file.

I made sure I could run the command prompt as administrator. When I right-click the file, I got the pop-up menu warning me about running it. So I stopped there.

Do I go ahead and run it?

Thanks so much again. I appreciate all your help.

Stay safe,

Jim

Jim,

Whether you rename the file extension to .BAT or to .CMD doesn't make a difference. CMD is pretty much the same as.BAT.

The Windows warning you get is a stock warning if you try to run an unsigned application. Since you just wrote the "application" for yourself, you can be sure that it is safe (if you trust my advice, that is). So what you need to do is click on "more Info". There should be an option to run the file anyway.

What the command is supposed to do is reregister the DLLs that enable dictation into Microsoft Word and other applications. This is actually a built in undocumented command in Dragon that we found a little while ago. We don't know yet whether it really is the magic bullet it is supposed to be, so I am quite curious as to whether it worked for you.

Hope that helps, Stephan

Stephen,

Again, thanks so much. I ran the BAT file as administrator. I heard something running but nothing popped up. I just attempted to dictate into Word. The word showed up in the Dragon recognition ditty but nothing ended up in word.

It is good that barbershops are closed. Otherwise I would go get my Peaky Blinders cut.

Any thoughts?

Thanks so much and stay safe.

By the way do you take Lunis's advice about pressing {Alt+PrintScreen} to create a screenshot of a single window. I hate to say it, but screenshots taken by phone are not really an improvement.

Cheers, Stephan

Can we try something?

But first, if Jim named his file with the line of code that Stephan suggested "something dot exe" it won't work. It does need either the .cmd or the .bat extension. So name it "whatever.cmd" before trying to run it. Second, right clicking on the command prompt to "Run as administrator" should bring up some warning, but of course you need to click through that warning to actually use the command prompt in elevated mode. It is safe. It's what you do in the command terminal that could cause harm, but Stephan's code is safe (enough).

Now if the gist of the problem is that Word doesn't "show the green dot" on the Dragon Bar, please check again within Word by clicking the File menu, then Options, then Add-Ins and make sure the "NatSpeak Word AddIn" is listed under Active Application Add-Ins. If it is not, at the bottom of the dialog, you can hit a "Manage" drop-down to find "COM Add-ins" and then click the "Go" button. It opens a box where you can click on check boxes to enable or disable existing Add-Ins (enabled means it has a check mark in the box) and even "Add" the COM add-in from the original location ([DragonVer]\Program\dgnword.dll) if it is not there. Make sure it is there, add it if you need to, and make sure it is enabled.

Now, One More try with Stephan's command would be like this. Press the Win button. Type "command" and "Command Prompt" program should appear. Right click on that and Run as Administrator. Yes, click through or accept the warnings, if any. Now, a terminal appears with a blinking cursor. You will likely be in the "C:\Windows\system32" folder but it doesn't matter where you are. You type in this exactly, with the quotes:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Program\natspeak.exe" /fixguids

Or copy the line to clipboard (again, include all characters including the quotes) and then click the command icon (very top left corner), select "Edit" then "Paste" to put the line in, and press enter. It looks like not much happens because you quickly get back to the blinking cursor. Type "exit" and see if Word behaves now.

Hth,

Thank you so much, PG,

everything you suggested. Still nothing. I did check and do have the dgnword.dll file. Nonetheless, when I go into Word options, there still is not Natspeak Word add-in.

I can dictate into Outlook.

I am also running KnowBrainer17. Lunis advises it takes care of this problem. I am going to check with him to see if I am missing something with it.

I do appreciate you trying to help me. What is funny is that Dragon works perfectly in Word and Outlook until about 3 days ago. I have installed a new Dragon 15 Pro. That did not fix it.

Enjoy your weekend.

Stay safe,

Jim

Wait on that. So Jim, I swear it is me, but I am still unclear. This is all about that "dgnword.dll" you say you have.

Where is it located? The one you have? Keep good track (or let us know). Do you have administrator rights on your PC? (If you've unfortunately lowered your UAC to nothing, then you probably do, or it doesn't matter, or I don't know what, I would never do such a thing, but I digress.) Ok, so maybe go to "Word" and "Run as administrator" (by right-clicking and accepting any warnings that pop up) on the program. Or not, try it without first.

Go back to Word, go back to File, Options, and Add-Ins and then where it says "Manage" you drop down or select "COM Add-ins" and press "Go..."

In the box that comes up for COM add-ins, you either have the "NatSpeak Word Addin" or not. And it is either checked or not.

EDIT: This seems to be where we are, so these remaining steps are all done within Word:

If it is not there, click the "Add..." button (in the Manage "COM Add-ins" dialog), and in the dialog box that shows up, go find that file and hit "OK", and now, in that "COM Add-Ins" dialog, make sure it is there and "check mark" that it is available, or "click" it yourself in the little box. Hit the "OK" button and then let us know.

I want so badly for this to help you, good luck!

PG,

Thanks again for getting back to me. The dgnword.dll file is located in C:\ Program Files (x86)\ Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15.

When I followed your recommendation concerning the Word options add-ins when I hit the go button this popped up: C: > Users > Precious Laptop >AppData > Roaming > Microsoft > Addins. It was empty.

I am so glad you and Lunis are on the case.

Much appreciated,

Jim

Great!! You are so close.  Now sure, that is the default location when the dialog box opens up.  But you can use that box to navigate to where the file is.  Click on "File Name" and enter the following, no quotes needed:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Program\dgnword.dll

and . . . hopefully it shows up!

EDITED:  Look at the bottom of the picture, where the label is "File name" because that is where you want to enter the string above.  First triple click the line above and copy it with ctrl+c and then click in that "File name" text box, empty it out and paste into it with ctrl+v the line from above and it should look good.  Click on "OK".

ANOTHER EDIT: Per Stephan, it may be that OP is running 64-bit Word. In that case, when you are where you can "Add..." a COM Add-in, put this following line (triple click it and copy) in at the bottom, where it says "File name" (paste it in):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Program\x64\dgnword_x64.dll

Sorry I am using the old screen capture. I tried Alt PrtSc and nothing happened. Nothing with Capture PNG.

Now what?

Sorry to be such an idiot.

Thanks so much,

While you didn't think anything happened, pressing  {Alt+Prtsc} did exactly what it is supposed to do. You just didn't double check by pressing {Ctrl+v} into Paint or Word. {Alt+Prtsc} takes a snapshot of the current Window while {Prtsc} captures the entire desktop. It has always worked this way. Your KnowBrainer Capture PNG also probably worked but you didn't attempt to paste it into a Window. Try the KnowBrainer Capture PNG to File and you will see a complete demonstration of capturing a Window, pasting it into Paint and prompting you to save it as a PNG. When you dictate the name, you will also note that all of your dictation will appear in Title Case.

As always, Lunis,

Thanks for getting back to me. When I give the command "capture PNG to file" it opens Dragon's's dictation box.

Sorry to be such a customer akin to a recurring rash.

Much appreciated and stay safe,

Hello, PG,

I just realized I replied to the wrong message. Attached is a screenshot (still having trouble figuring how to use the KnowBrainer method) which I think I got where you want me to go.

Now what do I do?

Thanks so much.

I hope you can get there again, Jim, because you are right where you need to be.  It looks like you entered the file name, "dgnword.dll", and address (folder path from "C:\" through "Program\") at the top, in the "Address Bar" (I notice the cursor is there, right after the extension ".dll" part).

But the path and file name should be typed into the "File name" box at the bottom instead.  And, where did you get that semi-colon after the "C" from?  All the examples you've been given use a colon after the letter "C".  Look at the screen shot in my "Great!! You are so close" message. Notice what is in the top "Address Bar" and what is in the bottom "File name" box.  Also notice that both your screen shot and mine show we have the file "dgnword.dll" so actually all you have to do is click on that file to load the "File name" box correctly (you don't need the path because you are already there!)  For that matter, from the screen you're at all you did to do is write "dgnword.dll" in the "File name" box.

At this point, the button that shows as "Open" will now look like "OK" and that is what you click to finish up.  Good luck.

Thanks for getting back to me, PG.

I followed your edit information and now feel like I have entered the "Twilight Zone." The following attachment show an interesting course. The 1st 1 shows what pops up when I hit the add button on the com add-in. It brings up the Microsoft add-in.

After I hit okay on it and go back to the com add-in and hit add, it brings up the Dragon add-in. I hit okay on that. When I hit the button on the com addin it brings up the dragon add-in.

This is turning into Fermat's math problem which was solved in the late 90's by someone using modular math or something. My math is so weak I don"'t qualify for "Qauntum Mechanics for Dummies!"  My youngest daughter received a high enough score in the AP test to receive at least 3 college credits or maybe 6. High school AP physics doesn't go into the quantum world. Nonethelss, I keep sending her material on it.

She laughed so hard when I told her I didn't qualitfy for the Dummies book her eyes bulged like Marty Feldman's. Of course she posted it on Facebook, which I do not belong.

I appreciate your efforts.

I thought politics was off-base here.

I was admonished on a forum one time when I brought up something political.

That was not my intent. Rather, it is just further proof that a college girlfriend who was a member of a coven (did not know until we broke up) has put a hex on me or it is the fact I am spawn of siblings.

I will offer this however: there is a ruling class in this country made up of Republicans and Democrats. It never puts the country first. Rather, it is its maintenance of power. Getting reelected is the number one priority. How is it that we have three remaining presidential candidates all older than 70? I wonder what would happen if there was a grassroots movement to put in place term limits for members of Congress ?

If there ever was a time where our leaders should sit down and figure out what is best for the country, it is now. But that clearly is not happening.

If I was younger and wealthy enough to have a trustworthy security force, I would run for Congress on this platform: unless it dealt with something legitimately classified dealing with national security, I would have everything I did other than sleep videotaped and placed on a podcast. I we consider that actual transparency.

I would expect within a week, I would be completely ostracized and no other member of Congress would meet with me.

The numerous videos and audio recordings when the political class and its minions do not think what is being discussed is in fact being memorialized says it best.

Enough said. I generally watch YouTube to exercise the gray cells i.e. trying to understand something about quantum mechanics. I do not even qualify for "Quantum Physics for Dummies" because I do not have enough math in my background! I offset that dilemma with watching old videos of Julius Sumner Welles and Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp.

Stay safe.

Jim

I tried to cut and paste it from YouTube but could not. It is the one where he demonstrates the Bernoulli principle.

This answer goes back a few posts but Microsoft recently updated their Snipping Tool. In the future, rather than pressing {Alt+Prtsc} try pressing {Win+Shift+S} to open Snipping Tool for more options. The default option allows you to use your mouse to capture a picture of exactly what you want to share. We will automate this functionality in the next KnowBrainer Build.

Fair enough, Jim. So, to avoid politics on this forum, let me confess that my favorite Bible story is probably the one where Jesus's idiot son-in-law Jared says that all the fishes and loaves are for his use only, and then the two of them jet off for a long weekend of golf at Galilee-a-Lago.

am a Catholic. When I first started practicing law (1978) lawyers did have a drink each night at a designated watering hole. I became great friends with the leading criminal lawyer in the city. He was about the size of a hobbit with a full beard. If you looked up charisma in a dictionary you would see his picture.

He was a Catholic as well. However, at that time he was married to a Jewish woman. As result, he was quite versed in the Old Testament as well as the New Testament. My best friend was a Lutheran. For weeks, he would tell us stories at the drinking hole from the Old Testament. We were beyond fascinated.

My favorite beatitude sadly did not come from Jesus but Nietzsche: "Blessed are the sleepy ones or they shall soon drop off." At least I think it was Nietzsche.

Now my last political comment. Whether you like Trump's politics or not, he certainly exposed the ruling class. When he won the nomination, the Reoublicans go to sleep him able bowel syndrome. When he won, the Republicans developed DC dysentery. While they try to keep it under wraps, the Republicans are just as terrified as the Democrats that he is unleashed the political power of the great unwashed. And wasn't it the visual antidote for Viagra's most annoying complicationm who called them "the deplorables?"

I could go into the Biden "resurrection" and soon replacement but I will end my rant. I am am going to become mute on politics. My energies are going to be focused on how I can remove the hex that prevents me from dictating into Word. I have to find a more powerful wizard than Microsoft's installation wizard.

Tomorrow I will put my version of the Baker Street Irregulars on the search. They have never failed. I just need to change some dollars into euros--or is it now pounds? I convinced them I am Holmes in disguise. However, I have to pay at today's rate rather than the 1890's!

Stay safe,

Jim

Right, now that PG has brought us back on the track, can I just suggest that possibly Jim has the 64-bit version of Microsoft Word? In this case, you don't need dgnword.dll, but the dgnword_X64.dll, located in the subfolder x64.

Other than that, PG's advice is sound as ever. It's just that I found that adding the Microsoft Word add-in back in frequently results in an error message "this is not a valid add-in". Let's just keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.

By the way RĂ¼diger the green dot is for the Windows Explorer, not for Microsoft Word. That's where the cursor is located in screenshot 60.

Hope that helps, Stephan

Thanks to Stephan, I can only guess you are running 64-bit Word.

So now, the next step is to do it all again (get back to where you can "Add..." a COM Add-in), but this time, when you get there, put this following line (triple click it and copy) in at the bottom, where it says "File name" (paste it in):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Program\x64\dgnword_x64.dll

As always, PG,

I appreciate your help so much. I am attaching the results of my following your recent advice concerning a 64-bit Microsoft program. As you can see, it is. Interestingly, you will see that when I get to the COM-add-in, it first brought up the Microsoft add-in. I added the file and got the pop up that it was not recognized. After that happened, I closed out that pop up and hit the add button again, which resulted in the Dragon add-in coming up.

You can see from the picture, it did not give me the okay button. However, once I gave the PNG capture command, it switched to okay. When I click that, same pop up as with Microsoft. I took a picture of it as well.

Thanks so much,

Jim

[Attachments removed] This post included multiple attachments of the same pngs. Let's try a different approach. Please press {Win+Shift+S} in the future to create considerably smaller and easier to read .png of the current Window or an adjustable square box with your mouse. Do not forget to double-click the 4 second delayed banishing Window picture that appears in the lower right corner of your screen to open it to edit and save. You can also mark up these new Snips

This thread may be a little unnecessarily complicated when it doesn't need to be. If you are simply trying to enable Dragon Active Accessibility and Select-&-Say (denoted by the DragonBar green •), the following 7 steps should work in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel but not other Microsoft Office apps.

1. Press {Alt+F}
2. Press T (to open your options)
3. Press A A (to select add-ins)
4. Press {Alt+A} and select COM Add-ins; if it isn't already selected
5. Press {Alt+G}
6. Put a checkmark in NatSpeak Word Add-in and click OK
7. Relaunch Microsoft Word

Hello, Lunis,

I was going to use Microsoft's snipping tool but it does not pop up like the March, 2019, YouTube video. It comes up that it is moving and the functions do not seem to work correctly for me.  I am cursed !!!!

So I am using the capture PNG to file command.

I made a screenshot of what comes up when I use the ALT+A command.
A screenshot that shows what happens when I enter the ALT+G command.
And finally what pops up if I select Word Add-in from what appears with the ALT+G command.

I do not understand why this is such an ordeal.

I appreciate everyone's help. Sadly, forr years worked flawlessly in Word and Outlook. Then last week something drastically changed. And KB 2017 does not fix it either.

Glad I am only working part time. I probably spent 20 hours on this already.

As always, thanks so much.

Stay safe,

Jim

Good evening, PG,

I think I figure out the snipping tool. I numbered the screenshots with the explanation of where I was.

I did at a dance in high school when it was a ladies choice.

I appreciate your help.

Stay safe,

Jim

There have been so many deviations on this thread that I may have missed the answer to two important questions:

1. Which MS Word version EXACTLY do you have? You can look that up in the File menu - Account. There is an Info button that will give you the full details.
2. Now that adding the Dragon Add-in for 64-bit Word has failed, did you ever try to add the Dragon Add-In for 32-bit Word? This is the one that we initially talked about, namely C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking15\Program\dgnword.dll

However, my experience is exactly the same. Once the add-in has gone AWOL, you can't add it back in.

Thanks for getting back to me again, Stephen,

I am going to use some snips, that I think I made correctly, to outline what I did.

1. System 1 is my system.

2. For some reason I have two Gmail accounts. MS 1 and 2 show the word version, which I appear to be the same.

3. Stephen 1 is what occurs after I click the add button inCom Add-ins.

4. Stephen 2 is what happens after I add the dgnword.dll to Stephen 1 and click the okay button.

5. Stephen 3 is what happens after I click the add button in Stephen 2.

6. Stephen 4 is interesting. This is what happens after I save Stephen 3 with the snipping tool and then close out of the snipping tool.

5. This is what happens after I click okay in Stephen 4.

6. After clicking the add button in Stephen 5 I get back to the COM Add-ins.

7. Stephen 7 is what occurs when I add the dgnword.dll and click open.

So if your diagnosis is correct, in Dragon 15 Pro there is a gulag where the ability to dictate in Word and Outlook goes never to be heard from again?

You would think Nuance would put together a patch to fix this. However, maybe it is close to coming out with Dragon 16 and intends to use fixing this problem as part of its sales pitch. One would think that Nuance might follow what Apple does when problems are reported with an updated OS system.

I appreciate your help.

Stay safe and well,

Jim

This thread has certainly become overcomplicated. You might consider installing a 32-bit version of Office 365 and reinstalling Dragon, at this point. You can leave your existing user profiles.

If this doesn't work, it might be time for our White Glove Remote Support which you will find in our signature tag.

Good evening, Lunis,

What looking to see how I could reinstall my Office 365. Ended up having a chat room with someone from Microsoft. Absolutely no help. My computer startup says I have Microsoft Office 2016. She gave me a link to find out which I had. As with this whole process, that link only allows me to look for Office 365 which requires a product key.

I learned that when your Microsoft office comes preinstalled on your computer, as it did with mine, once you activate you do not need that number any longer. I am too tired to look to see if I received the product key when I purchased the laptop.

As you know, Microsoft Office is going to a monthly subscription fee. I paid for this Office when I bought the laptop.

I will call Microsoft tomorrow. Do you know if anyone has contacted Nuance about this problem? According to Stephen and PG they know of no remedy. I would think that others have had this problem.

I will follow up with you tomorrow. As always, thanks so much.

Stay safe,

Jim

Thx, Stephan. I believe OP did say 64 bit at some point. Can't add it back in? That's tough. Maybe that happened to me once a while ago but I didn't realize it (I can't remember all the details). Maybe I did a "Repair" of Word - in your experience, does that help? What about dropping the .dll into the default add-ins directory, can you add it then? Any chance that would help?

Sorry Jim, if what Stephan says is so (and I have no reason to doubt it - his experience covers multiple users of Dragon), I'm sorry I wasted all your time trying to fix something that can't be fixed (although this now seems to be a Dragon problem, namely that it doesn't work with the normal Office add-in procedures).

Stay safe and well everybody . . .

Jim,

thank you for going to all these lengths in documenting what you did - only for Lunis to remove the screenshots :-)

I am not sure whether Nuance is to blame for the add-in issues. An add-in is always a double-edged sword, and it may well be that Microsoft has simply changed the rules in a recent update. Nuance certainly knows about it and keeps fixing their Office add-ins, only to find that MS has moved the ends once again in the next update.

Thought I would keep you updated. I spoke with Microsoft and learned I have an Office Business 365. When I advised I needed a product key to reinstall it, she transferred me to accounts. Somehow the call got dropped.

I am searching for a direct number for the accounts department.

After opening up KnowBrainer and Dragon after the call, I was able to dictate directly into Word. I saved a template document but left it open. I minimized it.

When I went back to Word and maximized it, I could not dictate directly into it. I closed out of Word and restarted it. Now back to where I started, I cannot dictate into Word.

Dragon is working fine with Outlook. If I get time, I might try to contact Nuance.

I will keep you posted.

Again, I appreciate all your help.

Stay safe,

Jim

I ended up downloading the Microsoft Office 365 Home trial. Dragon 15 is working perfectly in both Word and Outlook.

For my purposes, I only need Microsoft Office 365 Personal. It did not have a trial period. I confirmed with Microsoft that when the Home trial period ended, I could convert to the Personal.

The combined electrical activity in the little gray cells (hercule Poirot)No doubt exceeded that of Stephen Hawking's. Thus, Dragon 15 has a black hole problem.

I just learned from Lunis that Dragon 15 will have no more updates. Hopefully, Dragon 16 fixes the problem.

Thanks all of you for your help. The only way I can repeat the favor is if you have questions involving medical malpractice defense. I doubt a big area on this Forum.

Stay safe,

Jim
