Samson Q7 Microphone
The Samson Q7 ($99 SRP) came very close to equaling the Sennheiser MD431II ($500 SRP) in noise cancelation and beat the Sennheiser in overall accuracy. However, our favorite Q7 feature is the fact you can back off several inches from the microphone and still maintain a high level of speech recognition accuracy. Considering that the price is 1/5 of the Sennheiser MD431II, this is an inexpensive alternative.
Another alternative is the new Olympus ME 31 gun microphone which works great from up to 4 feet away.

Note: The Q7 microphone will not work with the VXI full-duplex pod (USB soundcard) and we have had mixed results with the Buddy 6G USB Pod so we can only guarantee half duplex USB Pods such as the Andrea Electronics half-duplex USB Pod and the VXI half duplex USB Pod. The Q7 will also work well with the upcoming Andrea Electronics full duplex USB Pod (due to be released in May of 2008).
