The VA is the first and best resource for disabled vets like yourself. Thank you both for your service.

Additionally, consider resources on the state and local level. Many states have Vocational Rehabilitation offices that can and will provide these services. Also, every state I have lived in offered an "assistive technology loan" program. For instance, they'd buy you a computer and Dragon and you'd pay them back at a very favorable interest rate. Say, 3%. This can also be useful if you're considering things like wheelchairs, ramps, home modifications and adapted vehicles.

The VA is a fantastic organization and they do great work. The advantage to working with alternative resources is simply that they're smaller. With less customers to serve, you're likely to get what you need quicker. But I'm not trying to disparage the VA. Like Chuck said, even if they're too swamped to help you they'll be able to give you good information.

Lastly, come back here when you do get Dragon. Through an incredibly generous business practice, KnowBrainer software (a third-party command tool that adds additional commands - and the ability to create your own!) to Dragon, is free to the physically disabled.

financial assistance available for Dragon and equipment? - Chucker

LearningChinese,

Being a disabled Vietnam vet myself, have you tried going through the VA. That's the best place to start because even if they can't help you specifically, they can direct you to resources that can and also will help with other issues related to that.

Granted, some states are better than others as far as the VA is concerned. However, you really need to start there because there are a vast number of resources available to that's from the VA, including the resources to direct you to appropriate outside sources. Take advantage of your VA benefits.

If you need assistance, let me know. I'm thoroughly familiar with the VA and its resources. Note also that if it is a combat injury, you have more resources available to you under the VA rehabilitation programs. Even if it's simply a service-connected disability but not a combat injury, there are still resources available to you through the VA.

Chuck Runquist
Technical Project Manager
VoiceTeach LLC
Home of VoicePower® Ultimate

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent, will not. Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius, will not. Unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education, will not. The world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "Press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race. - Calvin Coolidge

financial assistance available for Dragon and equipment? - LearningChinese

does anyone know of any organization or charity that provides financial assistance for disabled people that need to use Dragon plus equipment?

for what it's worth, it was a military injury, and I qualify as a disabled vet.

Thanks!

Which cell phones are recommended for use with Dragon? - Lunis Orcutt

<span style="font-family: 'Bookman Old Style','serif'; color: black; font-size: 13pt">All of today's high-end cell phones are basically jack of all trades and perhaps master of none.
