Lunis,
When will KnowBrainer 2008, revision G be released? Also, when will KnowBrainer 2010 be released?
Will either of these two releases take care of the problem where KnowBrainer "forgets where it is and what it's doing" and requires restarting so that the commands work? Having to work increasingly in "non-standard" applications such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and Illustrator, I get very frustrated at having to restart KnowBrainer every 15 to 20 minutes.
I'm not meaning to be nitpicky or critical, but it would be REALLY nice if I didn't have to restart KnowBrainer constantly.
My system: DNS 10.1 Preferred, KnowBrainer 2008, Vista 64 SP2, Intel i7 2.80 GHz (8 MB L3 cache), 6 GB tri-channel DDR3 RAM, 750 GB HD, 1 GB Radeon 4650HD, Jabra GN9330. Programs I commonly use: MS Office 2003, Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2, Dreamweaver MX 2004, FreeHand MX, some music player, KnowBrainer 2008, VoicePower, and DNS 10.1.

It must be the apps you are working in because I have never had this problem with KnowBrainer...........

Dana,
I have no doubt that it is the applications I am using.
When working with any of the "standard" applications such as Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, and Windows and any of its packaged applications or accessories, KnowBrainer does not encounter this problem. If I am working in Windows, Word, and Outlook all day, I will not encounter the problem.
However, when working in applications such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator, Freehand, and most likely any non-select-and-say-enabled program, KnowBrainer does have problems remembering commands and requires restarting before they will work again. When KnowBrainer has stopped "functioning properly", the commands usually get dictated as straight text.
The only other third-party command utility I have used is Vocola. Vocola did not encounter this problem when I was using it, but I also had trouble using it at all in some applications.

We have not yet reached a decision on whether or not to release another incremental update but none of these issues would be resolved in the upgrade. However, we are in complete agreement with you and this is one of the reasons we've begun work on KnowBrainer 2010 which will hopefully coincide with the release of NaturallySpeaking 11. Thanks for the information Lunis. I thought I had read somewhere that there was going to be a revision G. However, I would much rather have KnowBrainer 2010 than KB2008g since it will hopefully resolve the issues.
Need any beta testers? ;-)

What we will probably do is release some of the commands we are working on but it's definitely time to move to the next stage. Developer ofKnowBrainer 2008 Nuance NaturallySpeakingCertifiedBBBAccredited Speech RecognitionSolutions Provider

Lunis,
I know you did it in a different thread that you were closing the books on KnowBrainer 2008 and releasing the updated commands. I also know that you posted a link to download them, but I cannot find it anywhere. Can you please post the link again here or e-mail it to me so I can download them?
Also, can you give us a rundown on what the new commands are?

If you're a using Windows 7 64-bit operating system, click KnowBrainer 2008 64-bit REV F2 (Commands Only). For all other operating systems click KnowBrainer 2008 32-bit REV F2 (Commands Only) but note that the installation will overwrite personal existing commands you have created. If you do not wish to overwrite your existing commands you might want to use the KB2008Sync to backup your existing commands. For Vista-64 I would use the 32-bit? sorry to be a pain.

Lunis, would you be able to provide a list of commands that were updated or added? Not only do I want to overwrite my custom commands, but I also don't want to overwrite the existing KnowBrainer commands that I modified. Jomark et al.,
Just for the record, all Lunis has done with is 64-bit commands is to redo them so that they are compatible with Windows 7 and/or Windows Vista 64-bit. They are still 32-bit. Take a look at your error message. It specifies C:\Program Files (x86)... 64-bit applications go into C:\Program Files. 32-bit applications go into C:\Program Files (x86).

Jomark,
The problem is not with the contained file, the problem is with the installer. All you're extracting is an MDB file, which is a standard Microsoft access database file. You can't make database file 64-bit, you can only make applications 64-bit.
I'm trying to figure out why the installation fails. It's basically using a self extracting zip. However, my suspicion is that there some problem with the installation part of the exe file.
The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong, it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.- Douglas Adams (1952 - 2001)

All I want to know is what is new and what has changed so that it doesn't mess up all my other commands. I tried installing the new database file and then syncing with my backup, but it messed up all my commands. Chris,
I'm trying to figure that out myself, but it's not a simple process of checking one against the other. Perhaps Lunis would grace us with an explanation. Since I only use KnowBrainer for testing purposes, I have no problems with it having messed up by KnowBrainer commands. Unfortunately, that makes it all that much harder to dig through everything and find out what's going on.

Hi Chuck,
I use KnowBrainer exclusively. I have also used Vocola in the past. For various reasons, I have had to customize many of the existing KnowBrainer commands. Installing a new command set that overwrites the commands that I have customized is a BIG problem for me.
I have suggested an import/export utility in the past, but I'm not sure where that is on the priority list of development. It's just not practical to have to overwrite the commands every time there is an upgrade or new version

Chris,
One of my favorite phrases is that "serendipity is the mother of debugging." The problem is that it's too easy to break something while you're fixing something else, and too hard to pick it up until it's too late.
I empathize with you. God knows how many times I've had to beat people over the head to get them to really understand some of the things that we were taught originally. Way back, Microsoft had some very good technical specification requirements for writing MS-DOS and Windows programs. One of them was "Always prompt the user and ask them if they really want to continue, then ask them again one more time. This used to be a requirement for Windows logo certification. It no longer is. The other thing that was a requirement was that you conscientiously prompt the user to understand that nothing is perfect and anything can go wrong, and that they need to be aware of this and also be sure of what they're doing before they do it. Then, tell them again and always allow them to back out of it. How many times have you done updates to software, and I can't count the number of companies that do this on both hands and both feet, only to realize that they were going to force you to reboot when you clicked on "Finish" whether you like it or not and without prompting you and giving you the option to opt out. Lord that ticks me off.

We probably should have used a better naming convention but the KnowBrainer 2008 64-bit zip installation should only be used on Windows 7 64-bit operating systems (as previously noted). All other Windows operating systems including Windows 7 32-bit, Windows Vista 64 and 32-bit, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT, Windows 98SE, Windows 98, Windows 95, Windows 3.11, Windows 3.1, OS/2 and DOS users need to install the KnowBrainer 2008 32-bit zip installation (no guarantees on DOS through Windows NT).

the problem is that the win7 64bit zip does not work and will not install as there seems to be something wrong in that it does not execute properly. See posts above

Unfortunately, before we read your posting we added 3 additional commands and uploaded REV F2 which includes the ability to translate text into any 1 of 50 different languages, copy the translated text to the previous Window and a command to close the NaturallySpeaking Add Word Window when you're using the KnowBrainer Add to Vocabulary command to add a word or phrase that's already in your vocabulary. The 3 new commands are appropriately named Translate to <Language>, Transfer Back and believe it or not, Whatever.
We just tested the KnowBrainer 2008 64-bit (Commands Only) and it worked fine on our system which, because we are using Windows 7 64-bit, requires the installation to be deposited in the C:\Program Files (x86)\KnowBrainer2008\directory. Out of curiosity, what is the difference between Windows 7 and Vista 64-bit? I had thought they were fairly similar.
There are a lot of differences between Windows 7 64-bit and Windows Vista 64-bit (Windows 7 beta if you prefer) including a different directory address for 32-bit applications which is C:\Program Files (x86)\KnowBrainer 2008\ in Windows 7 64-bit only. In all other operating systems, including Windows Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 32-bit, the KnowBrainer application address is C:\Program Files\KnowBrainer 2008\. Perhaps we were wrong about our Vista 64-bit OS but we could've sworn that the address was exactly the same as the 32-bit OS. Obviously you'll need the 64-bit REV 2 which we just uploaded.
