I have read the posts about the 1.6 gig processor not being ideal. I just got the laptop. I am running XP. It is a core 2 duo 1.6 gig processor. What difference will there be if I add KB to it? Will the computer be slower because I am running an additional software program? Additionally, if I am in the fringe area and should have purchased a more powerful computer, won't adding KB add to my problems? It is working fine right now. However, I have no comparison to make. This is my first time with speech recognition software.

Brad,
KnowBrainer 2006 is no larger than a common utility such as an antivirus utility. You've got plenty of power on your computer although we do recommend 2 GB RAM. KnowBrainer 2006 will not add to your problems but will in fact make you much more efficient and will save you time in the long run.

To further explain what Tennessee Redneck is referring to, KnowBrainer is getting ready to release a medium-sized 50,000 word vocabulary which is 1 third of the size of your current ridiculously bloated 150,000 word large vocabulary.Because KnowBrainer is command software, it is designed to make NaturallySpeaking more efficient but within the next few weeks (free upgrade to current KnowBrainer 2006 clients) KnowBrainer should increase NaturallySpeaking's accuracy and make it run faster. We have been testing the medium-sized vocabulary for the past 2 weeks and it looks quite promising. Marty is correct in his assessment but if you had been purchasing a new computer we would've recommended a minimum of a 2 GHz processor. The difference between a 1.6 GHz and a 2 GHz processor is negligible but 2 GHz and higher processors include 4 Mb of L2 cache as opposed to the 1.6 GHz systems which only include 2 Mb of L2 cache. NaturallySpeaking is very L2 cache hungry.
As Marty said, your current computer should do fine but if it is still within the return period and you wouldn’t take a hit on any restock fees, we would definitely go with the 2 GHz system.
